Well Divas, the day is finally here—the start to baseball season! Just in time for the home openers (the White Sox opened their season on Monday versus the Minnesota Twins and the Cubs are Friday vs the Philadelphia Phillies), we’ve got two stellar guys who nabbed roster spots and who should be on your radar this week: Marcus Semien of the White Sox and Mike Olt of the Cubs, our HAM (s) of the Week.
As the Chicago baseball season comes to a sad, sorry end, we figured we’d HAM Hunt of the diamonds one last time before it’s too late. As White Sox fans know all too well, this season has been a disaster for the south siders.
Speed and strength are not the first things that come to mind upon first glance of White Sox pitcher Chris Sale. At 6’6″ and 180 lbs, the lanky lefty exudes a quiet confidence that is backed by the ability to shut down offenses and sink pitches that average around 96 mph.
The 2013 MLB season is only one week in and the White Sox are already finding their rhythm with an excellent homestand to start off the season. The Sox are 4-2 and won their first two series of the year against the Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners. The Sox are currently tied for first place in the AL Central division with the Minnesota Twins, who will be facing the Sox in Chicago in two weeks.
Sox fans…here we go! While many critics are calling for the Sox to have a mediocre 2013 season, largely due to the increased competitiveness of the AL Central, Sox fans remain optimistic thanks to strong pitching, a returning solid lineup, and a few new additions that could ultimately be the x-factor for the southsiders.
I will be the first to admit, as a Chicago sports fan, gearing up for the 2013 MLB season has been challenging this year. With the excitement of the NCAA tourney, the Hawks still kicking ass and taking names, and the anticipation surrounding the ongoing Derrick Rose Saga, the 2013 MLB season seems far off in the distance.
