Scottie Pippen

The reigning champion Golden State Warriors have been rolling through the NBA with a whole lot of wins. For much of this season, and the Warriors have been compared to the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls who also happened to have an incredible season during their reign as the champs. One could say the Warriors are running with the Bulls. Today, pharm the Warriors have the chance to tie the Chicago Bulls record of 44 straight wins at home.

How do the Warriors compare to the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls? Through 59 games Golden State is sitting at 54-5 and the ’95-’96 Bulls were 53-6.

During the Bulls iconic season, they accomplished what no team had done before, or has been able to since, but the Warriors are knocking on their record-setting door.

Chicago won 18 games in a row during one stretch of the 1995-1996 season. They also led the league in scoring (105.2 points per game), ranked third in defense, lost just two home games all season and won more road games (33) than any team in NBA history. RESPECT. Come playoffs, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen lost just one game in their road to the finals and ended up beating the Seattle SuperSonics for the title.

This season, the Golden State Warriors started with a 24-0 run. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are hotter than hot and their team is in the hunt for a 73-win season.

So what do we think? Will the Warriors tie the Bulls record? It will be no easy feat as their opponent is the OKC Thunder – who just lost to Golden State by a mid-court, buzzer-beater in OT from Steph Curry in Oklahoma City. Let’s just say, tonight’s game will be entertaining to say the least (something Bulls fans aren’t currently able to enjoy). Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are thirsty for a win.

Despite all their success in the recent years, Steph Curry’s MVP award and countless three-pointers the Warriors don’t necessarily get the respect they deserve.  None of the contestants on Jeopardy could identify the team from their logo…I say it adds more fuel to the Golden State fire.

Throughout the years we’ve had a number of iconic Chicago Bulls representing our fine city. Along with the celebrity baller status comes bold fashion choices that are often scrutinized by the media for all of us to see. From Jordan to Rodman to Noah, medicine players seem to be remembered as much by their personal style as they are for their All Star selections and playoff appearances.

Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable Bulls’ style and how it has changed over the years.

While the Bulls were winning back-to-back NBA Championships in the ’90s, rx grunge was dominating the mainstream fashion scene, but clearly this forgettable trend didn’t have an impact on the Bulls’ Big 3.

Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman were the original “Big 3” and with their big talent came high fashion.

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time as a five-time MVP and a six-time NBA Finals MVP, but I wouldn’t say the legend is known for his fashion. In fact, there are countless articles dedicated to questioning Jordan’s fashion choices. There’s even a tumbler blog on the very topic that is worth checking out for the slide show of Jordan’s fashion faux pas.

Rodman in a monogrammed, sparkly blazer

Of the three legends, Scottie Pippen had the most classic style. You often see pictures of him from the ’90s in a fitted suit and tie combo, the very combo you will still find him in today. I give his beautiful wife the credit for her well-dressed hubby.

Dennis Rodman, on the other hand, is the most eccentric-cross-dressing Bull to ever wear the uniform.  Sparkles, scarves, earrings, nose rings, lip rings, feathers, crazy hair color, and sunglasses. You name it, this guy did it all!

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve come a long way from the beaded blazers or parachute-like pants for our current Bulls. We’ve got a new “big three” in town made up of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Luol Deng.

D-Rose is a quiet guy who doesn’t try to make any crazy fashion statements. Rose fans know him for his abilities on the court and not his flashy sense of style. Most days we catch our superstar rocking his Addias line, but after a spread in GQ magazine last year we saw just how fabulous the MVP can look.

Joakim Noah has his own distinct fashion sense and he embraces every second of it. With his messy-bun swagger on and off the court you can tell Jo-No is a free spirit. There’s a strong sense of hipster with a dash of the islands. Noah is a big fan of layering and accessorizing with dangling rosaries and beaded necklaces.

Of the current Big 3, Luol Deng is the most conservative with his fashion choices. We either catch him in a zip-up hoodie or a slim-fitting suit. However, I do have to say Deng has excellent taste in shoes.

Retro Air Jordans

Despite the changes in baller fashion over the years, one thing that has remained consistent are the ever popular Air Jordans that are still worn all over the NBA today – proving that trends may come and go, but classics can last the test of time.

Looks like White Sox illness Chicago White Sox” href=”” target=”_blank”>(and former HAM) Gordon Beckham took advantage of his off-season this year! The famously single second baseman of the Chicago White Sox shared with the Twitter world yesterday, “I’m engaged to my best friend @BrittanyFletch . Happiest day of my life. Boom.” They are a super adorbs couple and will probably have super adorbs babies….hate to love them!

Brittany was a contestant during the 21st season of The Amazing Race with her friend Caitlin King. The pair were eliminated in the third episode, but if you ask me, I think she did better than winning The Amazing Race. Have you seen Gordon Beckham? Oooo child! YUM-MY! Wishing them both the best in 2013 …..and cannot wait to see the ring!

Last weekend Scottie Pippen made La’Ren Kimble’s “Make-A-Wish” wish come true at the Goodman Theatre’s A Christmas Carol. Scottie Pippen is the seventh hometown athlete to have partnered with Make-A-Wish and Chicago’s Goodman Theatre to make a dream of a child battling a life-threatening illness come true. In years past, Chicago sports royalty like Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura and Chicago Blackhawks ambassador & Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, also played a role in the production. reported, “La’Ren was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome when she was just three weeks old. That condition led to the existence of a rare kidney cancer called Wilms’ tumor. Regular appointments and a proactive approach have paid dividends for La’Ren and as she gets older, the risk of the cancer returning will significantly decrease.” quoted Scottie saying, “for someone who has faced so much adversity, she couldn’t be more upbeat and energetic,” said Pippen. “La’Ren is truly inspiring.”

On the night of the show, Scottie Pippen arrived early with his family and wife Larsa, former Bravo’s Real Housewives of Miami, for a meet & greet with La’Ren and her family. Scottie and La’Ren were on stage several times as pedestrians on the streets of London. At the end of the play, during the scene while Scrooge went walking through the streets on Christmas Day a changed man, Scottie and La’Ren chimed in with a line of “Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge.” Such a heart warming story during this Holiday season! We love you even more Scottie!

Stay warm and have a safe New Year! See you all in 2013!
