The French Open tennis Grand Slam began with early round play a couple days ago and a summary of who’s in and who’s out (e.g. what happened Serena?) will be coming out soon. Plus, cheap you won’t want to miss my notoriously wrong picks. But the big story now is what has happened off the court.
This has been a busy time for gossiping golfers and tennis players. The huge headline is that our favorite sports power couple Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki have broken up just weeks after their wedding invitations had been sent out. The big question was who will recover first?
This past week it has become very apparent on who is struggling and who is not. Rory recovered so strong that he won the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England on Sunday. He finished out his winning round with a birdie and seemed to find an escape from his personal drama out on the course. However we must keep in mind Rory was the one to break off the engagement (over the phone!) so we cannot help but wonder if this was somewhat of a weight lifted off of his shoulders.

However for Caroline it seems like the weight of the world is crashing down on her!
In her first round at the French Open she had a pretty tough first-round draw. She had to face off against number 64 ranked Yanina Wickmayer. Wozniacki was ranked number 12 and it seemed like she should win without issue, but Wickmayer is an excellent player who was once ranked number 12 and was a semifinalist at the 2009 United States Open. We also need to remember that Wozniacki has had a season filled with injuries. She has endured injuries to her wrist and knee and has not been fully focused on her tennis career.
So the big question remains, was it the breakup that accounts for her loss? Or is it the slew of other factors? With a final score of 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2, Wozniacki is out of the French Open in the first round and questions came flying. She responded: “I don’t really want to talk about my personal life.” She has admitted to the breakup being a bit of a shock and we know that that must have some affect one her personally.
Our hearts go out to Caroline Wozniacki and we hope she will recover from her heartbreak.
A big shout out and thanks to Smashing intern and Lehigh University golfer Nicole Feierberg for the research for this article.
It’s Friday divas! You know what that means; it’s time for a social media roundup. With the Blackhawks streak finally ending… the boys weren’t lighting up Instagram and Twitter like they normally do. Our Cubbies also kept it quiet this week. But not to worry, salve the Bulls, Bears and White Sox kept things interesting giving us plenty to share with you.
Let start with what little our Blackhawks did put out there. Andrew Shaw kept things positive after the big loss last Friday night.
Hey guys heads up! Was an amazing streak now lets get some rest and get back at it! Had a blast
This shot of Brandon Bollig as a little boy had us melting. Even at a young age he had that mischievous grin. We love everything about this pic except for the L.A. Kings gear. What’s this St. Louis boy doing wearing the Kings gear?
Moving on to the White Sox, Gordon Beckham showed off this amazing view on Instagram and Twitter.
White Sox players Brent Morel and Adam Dunn tested out their hockey skills. Nice effort, but I’ll keep my money on Emery and Crawford. But hey, it’s nice to know we have another back-up!
Taj GIbson and Joakim Noah caught up with Mike Tyson, Michael Rapaports and Spike Lee. We’ve got to say, Mike Tyson doesn’t look very intimidating when he’s standing next to Jo. Spike Lee just looks down right small. And come on Jo, I thought we already addressed the fashion issue…
Oh no! Look’s like Nate Robinson got pulled over. Rip Hamilton instagramed this hilarious picture this week. His caption was “@naterobinson pulling up to the United Center for a game last week screening 2 C H A I N Z Z Z in his new escalade. #holdat #my song got one of these”
Our man Devin Hester posted this pre-workout pic. He’s getting back into Bears shape! “6:30 wake up started today!!!” It’s great to see him back at it, but lets hope he stays with us.
New free agent, Brian Urlacher is also working on getting in tip-top shape. But it looks like he needs a little sun block on that bald head. Hopefully he’ll bring back a little sunshine to Chicago.
That’s all we’ve got for you this week. Check in next week for your SM round-up! We’re hoping for some great St. Patricks day posts from our favorite athletes!
We all know about Jenny McCarthy’s Chicago roots. The Evergreen Park native has returned to the Chicago area after years on the Hollywood circuit, viagra sale and we couldn’t be happier. The outspoken star proudly displays her love for our city in her daily Splash column and in the press when she has the opportunity. She even went as far as posing nude in her Mother McAuley high school sweater to show her love of her Chicago heritage. Still classy in our book.
Well…since McCarthy declares herself a Sox fan, we’ve got a few ideas for her before the new season gets underway. With attendance at Sox games decreasing over the past few years, we think Ms. McCarthy would be the perfect ‘unofficial’ spokeswomen of the White Sox and could help drive ticket sales with just a few moves.

1. Offer up a date to the single guys who buy season tickets:
This one was too easy. What single guy wouldn’t want to go on a date with McCarthy? At 40, McCarthy still makes pre-pubescent boys swoon and grown men blush. And, we’re pretty sure that the majority of these men have seen what she has to offer underneath. Plus, since she’s single, it could be a way for her to meet Mr. Right, or possibly pitch a new reality show around it.
2. Reenact Singled Out on the VIP deck before the First pitch:

For those of you who don’t remember, Singled Out was a MTV hit show that aired from 1995-1998. Jenny was one of the show’s hosts alongside Chris Hardwick.
On the show 50 males would compete for a date with one female contestant and then 50 females would compete for a date with the male contestant. The show was known for its sex appeal and raunchy topics. Naturally, it was something Jenny thrived at.
Jenny could either host a “Sox Singled Out” for lucky fans that are chosen from those that have purchased ticket packages – OR – Jenny could be the contestant for the Sox version of “Singled Out.” Only this time instead of being the host, she gets to choose who she wants to go on a date with.
3. Have an Autism Awareness Day at the Park
Jenny is a huge advocate for autism awareness since her son’s diagnosis. She has talked publically about her fight through her book, Louder Than Words, news articles, morning news shows and even on Oprah.
Jenny’s commitment to the cause would create a perfect opportunity to have a game dedicated to autism at U.S. Cellular Field. Donations could be made independently and/or through a portion of ticket sales for a select autism group. This could allow Jenny to mix business and pleasure.
4. A game with Melissa and Jenny McCarthy
Jenny’s hilarious cousin, Melissa McCarthy is at the height of her career and one of the funniest women to come along in quite some time. Bringing the McCarthy cousins to a game is sure to drive attendance. During the first inning ten people could be chosen to spend the rest of the game with the duo at the Bullpen Bar. Can you imagine!? Who wouldn’t want to do that? Even Cubs fans would consider buying tickets and heading to the Cell for a chance to hang with two of Hollywood’s funniest ladies.
5. Meet and Greet: Free jersey signed by Jenny and a player
The first 500 fans into the park could get a free jersey and have it signed by Jenny and a Sox player. Okay, so jerseys aren’t exactly what Jenny is used to signing, but autographing naked pictures of yourself has to get old eventually… Right? Jenny and a player could be available for autographs and pictures before the game starts. This could reach baseball fans who want the jersey signed by the player, as well as people who just want the chance to meet her.
Jenny is so proud of her South Side Chicago roots; now she has a chance to show her appreciation. The White Sox need a boost in their attendance and she’s just the girl they need. Do you have more ideas for Jenny? Let us know with your comments!
Happy Friday sports divas! We’re back at it this week with our weekly round up of top picks from our favorite athlete’s social media moments. This week we came to the conclusion that our Bulls love Instagram, hospital and our Hawks love Twitter.
Our first pick was from Naterobinson (Nate Robinson) wishing Joakim a Happy Birthday. Noah turned 28 on February 25th but waited to celebrate last night at a private party at The Boarding Room after his crushing double-double performance over the 76ers.
Nate was full of birthday wishes this week. Here, sovaldi sale he wishes his adorable little nephew a happy birthday.
After a rough week for the Bulls, Marco Belinelli seemed to be the team cheerleader posting this spirited team collage.
Awh, Mrcbooz (Carlos Boozer) Instagramed Bentley, his pretty pooch yesterday. I have to admit, I never thought pitbulls were cute, but this picture changes everything. Those eyes just kill me.
One of our favorite Blackhawks Brandon Bollig tweeted this pro-St. Louis picture out this week. The St. Louis native clearly remains loyal to his roots and keeps Cardinal company close, much to the dismay of Blackhawk lovin’ Cubs fans, we’re sure.
Finally, Patrick Kane gave us something to look at on social media. I was starting to wonder if social media was one of the things Kane has been banned from by the Hawks’ brass – after his ‘issues’ last season – but clearly Kaner waits for the bigger moments like this one, with legend Scottie Pippen.
This one stings. As much as we love Bryan Bickell, his stock dropped a bit after this photo slipped through the social media cracks. Really? A selfie mirror shot? Where’s your posse or your cute fiancé to take these types of photos when you need them?
That ends our social media picks for this week. Make sure to check back next week!
The whole Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn thing got us thinking about other mismatched athlete couples. In today’s world, viagra the lines between athletes and celebs is so blurred that we expect athletes to date celebrities and vice versa. But sometimes, decease like the rest of us, cialis they end up in relationships that really leave us guessing. Here’s the Top 5 that have stunned us as of late.

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn
The two meet at a charity event back in April and have been rumored to have been together since November. The high profile couple have been extremely quiet about their relationship and have tried to keep it out of the spotlight.
Normally, that might work, but sending your private jet to fetch your girlfriend is a sure way to set off the rumor mill. After Lindsey’s recent accident where she tore her ACL and MCL in the World Championships Super G, Tiger sent his private jet to Austria to pick her up and bring her back state side. Impressive.
Now, the pair is getting their families involved. According to US Weekly, Vonn’s brother gave ski lessons to Tigers kids Sam, 5, and Charlie, 4.
Lindsey’s never been one to shy away from the spotlight or take on a challenge – which was made obvious in her recent comments about bouncing back in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics. We’ll have to wait and see how this relationship holds up once the PGA Tour really gets underway. Maybe a healthy, monotonous relationship is the missing piece to Tiger’s highly anticipated come back as the #1 golfer in the world. It’s amazing what being in love will do for you…

Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens
One of the most shocking and odd timed marriages has got to be Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens. Hope, the goalkeeper for the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic soccer team married former NFL tight-end Jerramy back on November 13. The two applied for a marriage license after dating for just two months.
Things took a turn for the worse just two days before the two were to marry when Jerramy was arrested for suspicion of domestic violence on his soon-to-be bride after an altercation at a party in Seattle where Hope’s brother called the police. Hope has stayed on Jerramy’s side and continues to defend him, while denying that he has ever laid a hand on her. Unfortunately, he was arrested again two weeks later for a probation violation. Somehow the couple has stayed out of the public eye and have kept their marriage afloat.

Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari
Okay, this was one an obvious pick, but honestly, who would have thought the California bombshell would end up with the Chicago quarterback? Well, I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised. Jay was ranked the 4th most hated professional athlete; and for anyone who used to watch Laguna Beach, Kristin was the villain who stole Stephen from Lauren. I guess that means they’re perfect for each other.
As evil as she may have been in her on-screen (and off – according to some who also attended Barrington High) past, Kristin certainly has her hands full with Cutty and his love affair with the press. Even if she did receive a proposal via text and her ring sent in the mail, she seems to take it all in strides and the two appear to be happily planning their wedding for sometime this summer. Needless to say, we’ll be keeping a close watch on this one.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
I have to admit, out of all the Kardashians, Khloe is the one who I don’t really mind. When she married Lamar Odom after dating for only 30 days, immediately it seemed as a brash Kardashian type move, and I don’t think anyone believed they would actually last. Now three years later, they’re still happily married and proving us all wrong. After all, three years in Hollywood is impressive.
Rumors are constantly brewing about the couple, everything from divorce to baby drama. But the duo hasn’t let it phase them. Personally, I think Khloe has changed her priorities since the start of her marriage. It seems like she has backed away from reality TV and has stepped up to plate of being a NBA wife. Thank God Lamar is playing for the better team in LA this season (the Clippers) or things could be a little tougher on the home front for this high profile couple.

Brian Urlacher and Jenny McCarthy
An unforgettable relationship to hit Chicago was Jenny McCarthy and Brian Urlacher. The former Playmate and Bears’ linebacker broke up in August after dating for just three months in a relationship that seemed to grab more headlines than Bears Training Camp. McCarthy, a south side native, had returned to Chicago to be closer to her family and get out of LA to raise her son. After McCarthy’s previous relationships, Urlacher seemed like a very strange choice but McCarthy defended it by telling the press she was ready for a ‘real’ man and was sick of the pretty boys out in LA.
After their 3-month paparazzi infused relationship ended Jenny released a statement saying, “Brian and I have decided to turn our romance into an amazing friendship. I will continue to be the biggest cheerleader for him.” That took the “lets just be friends” break-up to another level. After the breakup she donned the cover of Playboy for the 4th time of her career and looked every bit amazing.
McCarthy keeps a presence in the Chicago market contributing a column to Splash of the Chicago Sun Times. We’re hoping she sticks with athletes and takes her pick at some of the other fine, single players in the market. We need more material and who doesn’t like having a celeb/athlete couple to follow here in Chicago? The Second City needs their own dose of celebrity and paparazzi! Check back in next week for my preferred picks for Ms. McCarthy.
The Holidays have come and gone so quickly, click College Football Bowl Games are full speed ahead and NFL Playoffs are juuuussst around the corner. Life is good. Life is even better when the Sportsanista dishes up some Friday gossip! Shall we get started? We shall…
Looks like White Sox illness Chicago White Sox” href=”http://sportsdivasinc.com/2012/07/gordon-beckham-chicago-white-sox/” target=”_blank”>(and former HAM) Gordon Beckham took advantage of his off-season this year! The famously single second baseman of the Chicago White Sox shared with the Twitter world yesterday, “I’m engaged to my best friend @BrittanyFletch . Happiest day of my life. Boom.” They are a super adorbs couple and will probably have super adorbs babies….hate to love them!
Brittany was a contestant during the 21st season of The Amazing Race with her friend Caitlin King. The pair were eliminated in the third episode, but if you ask me, I think she did better than winning The Amazing Race. Have you seen Gordon Beckham? Oooo child! YUM-MY! Wishing them both the best in 2013 …..and cannot wait to see the ring!
Last weekend Scottie Pippen made La’Ren Kimble’s “Make-A-Wish” wish come true at the Goodman Theatre’s A Christmas Carol. Scottie Pippen is the seventh hometown athlete to have partnered with Make-A-Wish and Chicago’s Goodman Theatre to make a dream of a child battling a life-threatening illness come true. In years past, Chicago sports royalty like Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura and Chicago Blackhawks ambassador & Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, also played a role in the production.
ChicagoBulls.com reported, “La’Ren was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome when she was just three weeks old. That condition led to the existence of a rare kidney cancer called Wilms’ tumor. Regular appointments and a proactive approach have paid dividends for La’Ren and as she gets older, the risk of the cancer returning will significantly decrease.” ChicagoBulls.com quoted Scottie saying, “for someone who has faced so much adversity, she couldn’t be more upbeat and energetic,” said Pippen. “La’Ren is truly inspiring.”
On the night of the show, Scottie Pippen arrived early with his family and wife Larsa, former Bravo’s Real Housewives of Miami, for a meet & greet with La’Ren and her family. Scottie and La’Ren were on stage several times as pedestrians on the streets of London. At the end of the play, during the scene while Scrooge went walking through the streets on Christmas Day a changed man, Scottie and La’Ren chimed in with a line of “Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge.” Such a heart warming story during this Holiday season! We love you even more Scottie!
Stay warm and have a safe New Year! See you all in 2013!
