Whenever anything happens in the NBA, view why does Drake always always have to be somehow involved? After an all too typical fourth quarter collapse in a winnable game against the Spurs on Monday, treatment the Sacramento Kings dropped to 1-7 on the season, cialis tying the worst start in Sacramento history. So naturally, enter Drake. The Hotline Bling rapper walked in to what has been described as a sad and silent Kings locker room after the loss. He didn’t have to fight the security guards like he has in other arenas in order to hang out with (some of) his favorite tall dudes in towels. This time he entered WITH Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé, who likely spent the better part of the Kings off day yesterday screening Drake pics for his Instagram before settling on this one.
Drake is supposedly a good friend of Boogie’s, hence the UK gear, and it would probably have created more of a stir to keep him out of the locker room, as opposed to bring him in, no matter how awkward the timing. And the Kings are way past awkward at this point. After suggesting a 4 on 5 defense leaving a player back to cherry pick last season, Ranadivé has pushed Vlade Divac through as the Kings lead decision maker, fired Mike Malone after a GOOD start to the season, hired George Karl, refused to #FreeBoogie, and signed controversial-at-best Rajon Rondo, all to come up 1 and 7 mid-November. Keep in mind that the Kings first round draft picks resemble a phone number having all been in the single digits since 2009 – 457-5786. How are they so bad, with that much lottery talent available in the last 7 years?
Yesterday, Divac offered the following gem to the media to describe where the players are with the new coaching staff, “I never said they don’t like the system, they just didn’t buy in, yet.”
I’m thinking the ladder is a significantly bigger problem, but it’s not my opinion that matters in Sacramento or really anywhere, it’s Drake’s.
Kings take on the impressive Detroit Pistons tonight in Sacramento.
The long and short of it is this: I’m lucky enough to travel the world speaking at tech conferences (and thank you Jesus it’s on someone else’s dime!). Unfortunately with all that time-zone hopping comes flights with no wifi, I-just-took-a-red-eye-and-have-no-idea-where-I-am-or-what-time-is-it confusion and you-idiot-why-did-you-put-your-laptop-in-your-checked-bag self flagellation.
Luckily for all of us, conference season is done for me until February so I can now devote my time the things that really matter: cooking, finding a decent glass of wine in Pittsburgh, and making fun of the idiots in the sports world with you fine Divas.
Let’s do this.
Drake is trolling all of us and the sports world is in on the joke
The rapper Drake released the music video for his song Hotline Bling and, as the folks over at Bleacher Report put it, it’s in typical Drake goofery. The internet went crazy.
There’s comes a time in every writer’s process when you know that there isn’t a way to make better what is already great (<– and that sentence is why they hired me, you guys). Take it away, Twitter!
So that’s how Louisville got all those recruits
I have been dying – D Y I N G – to talk to someone – A N Y O N E – about what is going on in Louisville. Not because people associated with big-time college basketball programs are allegedly hiring escorts for the players’ use ($50 for sex? That’s all, ladies? Really?). And not even because Rick Pitino is denying that he had any involvement in it or knowledge of it which…(this side eye I’ve got happening right now….).
Nope. I want to talk about this because people think Pitino is getting fired. Fired? Really!? This is the man who admits – HE ADMITS! – that he had sex with a woman in a restaurant booth, told us how long (short?)(yeah, yeah, too easy) the counter lasted, gave her $3000 to get an abortion, and did.not.lose.his.job. Seriously, Rick Pitino and his antics are better than HBO.
Chicago sports in 25 words or less
Derrick Rose’s face mask looks uncomfortable. I’m sorry, I hate preseason anything. I’ll come up with better stuff when they open their season Tuesday against the Cavs.
A place kicker – albeit, a great one – is now the Bears’ all-time leading scorer yet Halas Hall is confused as to how we lost to the pitiful Lions.
Not looking good, friends. Hey on the bright side all of you bandwagoners only have one game left to pretend like you care.
Chicago White Sox
Nothing new here. I just wanted an excuse to point and laugh at Alex Rodriguez who overthrew a football and broke a television screen on his first day at Fox Sports.
Hello Divas! I missed all of you oh so dearly. I know it’s been a while, mind but I am back…just in time for the NBA Playoffs!
It is a wonderful time in the NBA where the game–and the fashion–is intensified.
During the Playoffs, health wood can become headgear and lint rollers can act as accessories. There are hits. There are misses. There are downright shames. I’m here for all three. Let’s get into it, cheap shall we?
NBA on TNT Honor Craig Sager with Sartorial Fashion
If you are an avid basketball watcher, you have definitely seen one of Craig Sager’s bold suits on the sidelines of major games. The TNT reporter is currently being treated for acute leukemia in Atlanta.
In honor of Sager, The NBA on TNT crew channeled their inner Sager and dressed up like him. Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal sported eye-popping ensembles while wishing him a speedy recovery.
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Deron Williams go Business Casual
Brooklyn Nets star players Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Deron Williams were recently seen rocking pre-game business casual ensembles. They looked dapper as they made their pregame strut into the locker rooms.
Although the series against the Raptors is tied 2-2, Kevin Garnett tells reporters that he is not impressed with the Barclays Center crowd.
“They could do better,” Garnett said, as reported by ESPN. “I was expecting Brooklyn to be real hostile, New York-style. I know what it’s like to come here as the opposition, so our crowd could do better, but they were there when we needed them, and we fed off of them.” (Fox Sports)
Mike Conley’s Wooden Fedora
Question. When did wood become a fashion statement? I am going to go out on a limb and say that Mike Conley would know. The Memphis point guard got everyone’s attention with his wooden head gear. The carpenter’s dream of a hat was an epic collaboration between Conley’s stylist Brandon Williams and Two Guys Bow Ties.
Mike Conley is one of the few people on this earth that can pull this look off. He manages to look swag-ulous even while rocking a hard-wood flooring on his head. That takes talent. Okay. I have another serious question. Does a wooden hat require an occasional pine-sol cleaning? I need to know these things.
Mike Conley’s wooden fedora
One thing that I do know is that Mike and Grizzlies are putting up a fight! Memphis is currently tied 2-2 with Oklahoma City.
Andre Iguodala in Animal Print
Lions and tigers and blue leopard print–oh my. Andre Iguodala was seen sporting a powder- blue leopard print sweater. The Golden State small forward/shooting guard’s style is always on point. I’m glad that his on-court style is finally catching up. On Sunday’s Game 4 against the Clippers, he scored 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists–an improvement on his average 9.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
“I found some things they were trying to take away from Steph and Klay (Thompson) and was putting myself in position to be a threat” Iguodala said. “We’re going to continue to look forward and try to make things happen.” (SF Gate) The Warriors are currently tied with the Clippers 2-2.
Drake attends Raptors Game
Drake is certainly putting Toronto on the map! Ever since the Canadian recording artist (and 2014 ESPYS host) became the Raptors’ global ambassador, everything’s been coming up ‘Canada.’ This is the first time that the Toronto Raptors have made the playoffs in six years. Toronto will also be hosting the 2015 All-Star game. Big deal, much? Drake is very vocal (and visual) about his love for the Raptors. He has made himself comfortable at the games . Comfortable enough to roll lint. No, that statement is not a euphemism. He was literally using a lint roller on his pants during a game. When he’s not making his clothing lint-free, he is busy yelling at referees.
Oh, Drake. You never cease to slay me.
Well, that’s it for now, Divas! I will be back next week to talk about more Playoffs Fashion and Gossip. As usual, I will keep you fabulously posted!
The 2013 NBA Champs received Presidential recognition on Tuesday. Clad in their dapper suits, cheap the Miami Heat made their second consecutive trip to the White House. “The Heat showed us the kind of heart and determination it takes to be a champion, thumb ” President Obama said. “And they also showed what heart means off the court.” (whitehouse.gov).
While at the white house, the players also met with wounded warriors at the historic Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. After President Obama’s remarks, Coach Spoelstra presented him with an honorary trophy signed by the entire team and a jersey that read ‘POTUS 44’. See what they did there?
The President, a fellow Chicagoan (and, duh, Bulls fan) even joked “You know, you guys are winning me over a little bit.” Hmmm, I wonder what the president would say about their three-game losing streak.
For the first time in two years the Miami Heat let three games slip through their fingers. They recently lost to the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards. Now that deserves a confused JaVale face.
The Heat’s shooting has been lackluster, as their 38.2% three-point range shooting has dropped to 29.0%. Something tells me, however, that they are not in the least bit phased by the losing streak. I would think that they would be more concerned about keeping key players like Wade, Oden and Battier healthy for post-season rather than focusing on short-term wins. I’m just saying. Although things are looking quite dim, I am sure that the Heat will make an epic comeback…as they always do.
LeBron James’ Pre-Game Ensembles
LeBron James is one NBA player that knows his designers. I am always excited to witness his stylistic greatness. The MVP has been snapping swag-infested pre-game photos and sharing them on Instagram. Before the Knicks game, he styles a Han Kjobenhavn trench coat with a Givenchy sweatshirt. His Nike animal print LeBron 2 sneakers are all kinds of FIERCE! I think that he is winning in this outfit…but he wasn’t winning on the court. The Heat’s fire fizzled as they lost to the New York Knicks (92 – 102).
Before a Brooklyn Nets game, LeBron sports a Philip Lim Tromp l’Oeil Anorek jacket with tan pants and Glow In the Dark Edition Lebron 3 Sneakers. Although the Heat suffered a double over-time loss (95-104), King James could still say that he was the best dressed player that evening.
Drake’s Vintage Raptors Blazer
The Toronto Raptors have a new global ambassador! It is none other than multi-platinum selling rapper, Drake. In a recent celebration of the occasion, the Canadian hip-hop artist hosted the first-ever “Drake Night.” Drizzy got the crowd hype while sporting a blazer lined with a retro Vince Carter jersey.
Kevin Durant’s Effortless Style
I just love the way that Kevin Durant puts his pieces together! The OKC small forward recently posted an Instagram pic sporting a blue bomber jacket and denim jeans. His MCM Stark Backpack and redJon Buscemi sneakers are essential accessories to his laid back look. He exhibits effortless chic by tying a plaid shirt around his waist.
The cool, trendsetting KD was a pivotal piece of history when the OKC beat the Houston Rockets on Thursday (104-92). Heads were spinning at the Toyota Center as they achieved the best second half performance in team history. “We just tried to take it a possession at a time. It was special to see everybody play for each other.” Durant says. (Newsok.com) Well, Kevin. Keep taking it ‘a possession at a time’ as I take it one outfit at a time!
That’s it for now, but Courtside Chic will be back next week to keep you fabulously posted!
