As expected, our Chicago summer has been a mix of steamy, sunny days followed by a chilly, overcast one that barely sees 70 degrees. This inconsistent pattern of bizarre weather is nothing new for us, in fact, it just reminds us of how resilient we Chicagoans are when it comes to crummy weather.

Out of necessity, the art of layering has become second-nature to us Chicagoans, as you never really know what you are going to get within a week’s span. Added to this unpredictability is the fact that temps can swing by 10 degrees down by the lake, and no one – I repeat NO ONE (not even Tom Skilling) can predict the weather four days out.

I’m convinced we’ve missed our window of hot, sweaty weather this summer. Personally, I love the heat,  those 93+ temp days that make some miserable, make me swoon. Very rarely do we deal with summer heat, that when it comes, I welcome it with open, sweaty pitted-arms, knowing that in just a few short months, we’ll be suffering through another cruel Chicago winter.

But for gals like me that love tanks, this wardrobe staple has become a year-round wardrobe rotation. A team tank is an ideal way to show your team pride without having to dominate your entire look. Tanks can easily be worn under just about anything, from a office-friendly blazer, to your favorite fitted flannel, to that chunky, cable button-up sweater that gets you through the winter. Consider these your go-to undergarments for the colder weather ahead and take a tip from one of our last posts, Layering Like a Pro.

The Bears 2014 season is less than three weeks away (wa….what???!). Now is the time to invest in a few key tanks to work into the fall, before the best pieces are picked over at local retailers. I love this retro inspired one (above) from Clark Street Sports. The font is catchy and the simple colors (without any heather grey) works with jeans, white pants, and the fitted white blazer that you are scrambling to work into some kind of look before LDW.

Chicago News and Weather | FOX 32 New

The ladies of SDI were back at it this morning visiting the studios of FOX32 News GoodDay Chicago to kick-off the Cubs Home Opener with more fan-inspired, thumb everyday looks. Similar to our White Sox fashion segment on Monday, we put together three different Cubs looks for spring that can be worn just about anywhere: to Wrigley, the office, out with the girls, drinks with your man, running errands and to the gym.

Look #1:  To Wrigley

Nancy Tiano

Nancy Tiano

How about that Cubs tan?! Nancy, a die-hard, life-long Cubs fan was recently in Arizona where she took in a few Cubs Spring Training games and landed that amazing tan. Here she is showing an everyday casual look that is perfect for a trip to Wrigley, exactly where she will be heading later today. Wearing this versatile v-neck Cubs tee from 5th & Ocean available at Clark Street Sports ($29.99), she layers the short-sleeved tee with a military style jacket with an embellished pocket, straight-legged jeans and adorable flats – practical enough for trekking around Wrigley, but still very stylish.

Look #2: To the Office:

Victoria Kendzierski

Victoria always seems to get it right when it comes to carrying the office, fan-friendly look. The sports publicist works in the Cubs racerback tank by Majestic from Clark Street Sports ($29.99) under a gorgeous leather combo Rag & Bone jacket, dark skinnies rolled to the ankle line and ambitious, black booties for a polished and sophisticated look that can be worn from the office straight out for cocktails or dinner…or Wrigley. If you are lucky enough to land in a skybox, like Victoria will be today with clients, then don’t be shy with the higher heel. Just be sure to watch out for the rain puddles and Old Style sludge.

Look #3:  Heading to the sports bar

Hannah Gettleman

Hannah Gettleman

Our HAM Hunter, Hannah Gettleman, rocked a light blue Nike Cubs tee from Fanatics.com ($31.95), with dark denim, a light-weight cotton bomber-styled jacket and black booties. This look is perfect for heading out to your favorite sports bar with friends for a Friday night or even a lazy Saturday. The t-shirt is just casual enough for the sports bar, but the dark denim, booties and black jacket give the look a level of sophistication and versatility.

As we always say here at SDI, it doesn’t have to be game day to work your fandom into your fashion rotation. Showing your love for the Cubs has never been easier thanks to sweeping improvements in women’s apparel and with thousands of options available at Fanatics.com, the largest online retailer carrying a huge variety of officially licensed merchandise of every team and league, and Chicagoland’s very own Clark Street Sports, we ask, why WOULD’NT you throw some Cubs love into your weekly wardrobe rotation?

Tweet us your Cubs looks to @ChiSportDivas and use the hashtag #MLBstyle for a chance to win gift cards from Clark Street Sports.  We’ll pull our favorite looks throughout the season and announce winners on Twitter, Facebook and right here on SDI.  Until then, stay warm, stay sporty and Go Cubs, Go!

Baby, <a href=store it’s cold outside” src=”http://sportsdivasinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Screen-Shot-2014-02-18-at-10.04.10-PM.png” width=”445″ height=”267″ />

I’m not the girl you will catch wearing a jersey. Possibly, salve for the Finals or the World Series (if the Bulls or Cubs ever made it), seek but normally it’s a fitted t-shirt, hooded sweatshirt or a yoga jacket as my clothing of choice to demonstrate my team spirit.

Now, let’s take into consideration the winter we are having here in Chicago. Without having to wear the dreaded team jacket (there are limits on how far I will go as a fan) how does one demonstrate their fandom and fashion while battling the elements of #Chiberia?

Glad you asked. That’s where accessories come in. There’s no better way to strike up a conversation about the Blackhawks or the Bulls with fellow fans than by wearing a warm team accessory, one that does double-duty: keeps your bod warm and sends the message that you’re part of the club.

Hats are the obvious choice, but really are only one of the many fashion-forward, practical and affordable accessories that are perfect for these LONG weeks of winter. Why not grab the attention of your fellow winter warriors (or that hot guy you always see in the Starbucks line with the Blackhawks hat) while cheering on one of our fabulous teams?

My Bears scarf: Woodmark Scarf by Forever Collectibles from Clark Street Sports

For example, I’ve received more than my fair share of warmth as well as compliments on my Chicago Bears scarf. It’s a natural conversation starter. When I wear it, I’m always asked about my thoughts on the team, regardless of whether the Bears are even playing.

With many more cold days ahead, don’t think you’ve missed the boat on nabbing some cold weather goodies for the remainder of this season. I’ve picked out a few of my favorite cold weather accessories to keep you going this ridiculous winter, and in many seasons to come.

How about a vintage inspired Blackhawks hat with a brim for that added feminine touch? I love the simplicity of this one: the simple block lettering and the pom-pom at the top just makes it that much better:  Mitchell & Ness Chicago Blackhawks NHL Vintage Winter Caddy Hat – Red $23.95

Ready to start a conversation with all of the hot men in the city wearing Hawks gear? Try wearing this Blackhawks scarf with the Stanley Cup proudly pictured on it along with the “5X Stanley Cup Champions”. A natural conversation starter, guaranteed. Everyone in this city loves to talk about the Hawks, everyone.  Reebok Chicago Blackhawks 5-Times Stanley Cup Champs Scarf – Black/Red $39.95

Long, toasty socks that peek out over your boots are all the rage this season. Why not work some Blackhawks into that look.

Who doesn’t love a cozy infiniti scarf? It’s become a wardrobe essential and perfectly acceptable inside as much as outdoors. Keep it subtle with this infiniti scarf with teeny-tiny Bulls logo. Just big enough for folks to notice.

With spring training kicking off this week, I’d suggest this adorable Cubs Stocking Cap from Clark Street Sports to keep you warm and happy…Next year is here!!

Of course, the south side Black and White is always a flattering combo with any coat or sweater. Check out this Chicago White Sox Black knit hat, because real White Sox fans don’t have an offseason when the temperature drops.

And who is more of a team player than your dog?  No city does it better than Chicago when it comes to dressing their pets in team gear. Accessorize your accomplice and be ready for the Hawks return to town with this high quality and hard to find Chicago Blackhawks dog Jersey from PawNaturals located right around the corner from the United Center.

Remember ladies, owning the slinky team tee is great, but real fans wear their fandom in their most functional and necessary outerwear. More than ever before, the gear is finally here to do it with taste and style.

Tweet us your favorite cold weather accessory to @chisportsdivas this winter. Come May 1st, because let’s be honest, we’re still wearing gloves and hats in April, and we’ll award our favorites with a Clark Street Sports gift card.

Stay warm and sporty, my friends.

SDI was back at the annual Cubs Convention this year talking to fans and taking in the sites and sessions, viagra but this time we were specifically hunting for the best – and most unique dressed Cubs fans.

SDI Founder Monica Murphy Vargas combed the halls of the Sheraton hunting down fashion and handing out coupons to local retailer, ed Clark Street Sports.  Nothing seemed to be off-limits this year as fans came out in full force and interesting fashion. In addition to the unique jerseys, try vintage tees, pins and bags, we witnessed a resurgence of zumba pants and Cubs onesies.

Watch the video above to find out who won SDI’s best and most unique dressed fans at this year’s convention. And for all of your Cubs merchandise needs, check out the huge selection of Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks…and White Sox gear at Chicago’s very own, Clark Street Sports.

MLB Spring Fashion

Hello my dear Sportsanistas! It feels like ages since we’ve last spoken. Let us not think about the past, click but the future, and the future brings us baseball fashion.

As we have witnessed in these first few weeks of the early season, anything goes. From sun and warmth, to sleet and snow. One must be extremely conscious of the weather particularly in these early baseball months, all while effectively incorporating today’s trends to their game day gear; oh the conundrum of having to look cute when its cold. However, women of Chicago have mastered the art of dressing in cold weather..mother nature gives us plenty of practice.

Today I’m going to highlight my favorite pieces of Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox apparel for spring.  It goes without saying in these unpredictable months…layers, layers, layers.

Lets get to the starting line-up…

Fashion this spring is all about color! Bright, vibrant, neon colors! I’m LOVING this neon tee from Clark Street Sports.  Pair it with a military green jacket for those chilly spring games and you’ll definitely stand out in the crowd.

Clark Street Sports, $34.99

You can’t go wrong with this vintage throw back Sox tee with the iconic Batterman logo from the ’80s. Glam in up with a leather jacket and some new Nike wedges and you’ll be ready to head out on the town after a Sox victory at the Cell.

Clark Street Sports, $34.99

In the spirit of keeping things bright, pair this heathered grey and Carolina blue baseball Cubs tri-blend tee with a pair of mint or coral skinnies! Match them up with a nude flat, maybe even one with a bow and you’ve got yourself a triple play.

Clark Street Sports, $34.99

Let’s continue with color, shall we? This classic zip-up Sox sweatshirt with a vintage feel pairs perfectly with just about any colored bottom. Red, mint green and yellow skinnies would finish the look off with the perfect lady-like touch. For an extra bold look, pair with spring’s floral denim trend. Just because the flowers around the Cell aren’t blooming yet, doesn’t mean you can’t.

Clark Street Sports, $54.99

Who doesn’t love fashion AND function? The folks at Nike are back at it with this Cubs track jacket that doubles up as a fashion statement with it’s vintage logo and track jacket cut. The functionality comes to play with strategically placed holes for your earphones.

Clark Street Sports, $60.00

Remember lettermen jackets from your varsity playing days? Well, leave it to the folks at Nike to make it new again and help us work it into our modern game day look.  I love this new twist on a trendy, vintage lettermen’s jacket to serve as outwear for a game under the lights. Pair this with a simple white v-neck, pegged denim and some nude pumps. Can you run to third wearing pumps? I can.

Clark Street Sports, $74.99

Well Sportsanistas, that is all she wrote. While we wait for spring to arrive, hopefully somewhere in my words you found some inspiration for your next game day look! PLAY BALL!
