The Cubs had an interesting opening month to the season. Let’s see… a goat’s head was sent to Wrigley, we witnessed several Carlos Marmol meltdowns, the Cubs threw the most wild pitches in an inning, and plans for Wrigley’s renovation were finally approved.

If you’re a fan of baseball, then you are well aware that pitching is an integral, if not the most important part of the game, and when your team is struggling on the mound, they’re likely struggling as a whole.

Cubs fans – congratulations. You’ve almost made it. Tonight, you can finally put this horrible season behind you. The Lovable Losers will finish a 3 game series against the last-place Houston Astros at home, and will close out a painful year that most of us would rather forget.

The Ryan Dempster trade fiasco finally came to an end yesterday, 4 minutes and 53 seconds before the 3PM CT Trade Deadline expired. The Cubs ace will be heading to the AL West-leading Texas Rangers in exchange for some minor league pitching prospects. The trade dance surrounding Dempster was anything but pretty with botched deals, temper tantrums and lost value on the Cub’s behalf, reminding us that at the end of the day, baseball is a business.

If you’re paying any attention to the Cubs these days then you’ve probably heard something about the looming trade deadline as well as the swarm of Cubs names associated with it. The Cubs have been on an up-tick lately winning 12 of their last 16 games, but the reality is they will not make the Playoffs, and therefore, will begin selling-off their best players before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline – all an integral and confusing part of the big business of baseball. Here’s what you need to know about the MLB Trade Deadline and the impact it will have on the Cubs.

As an eternally optimistic Cubs fan, this has been a trying season. I’ve heard all the excuses and the calls for patience as the team re-builds. Yes, the Cubs are below .500, but it’s not even the All Star break yet. And in Theo we trust, right? As a life-long Cubs fan trying to survive a brutal start to the season, it’s never more important than now to show my loyalty than during the Crosstown Classic because I’d rather hate to love the Cubs than cheer for that other Chicago team.
