The scoop: Kick off the live racing season at the premier Derby venue – Arlington Race Track! Arlington is the only place in town where you can experience live racing on Derby Day. Conveniently located right off I-90 and easily accessible by Metra (stop: Arlington Park – Union Pacific NW Line) this is the place to go for the closest experience to the actual Churchill Downs. Throughout the season, you’ll see it all here, but come Derby Day, the dresses, hats and seersuckers are in full force.
Place your bets on the “Run for the Roses” and watch the race on Arlington’s Jumbotron during the Derby broadcast. Purchase the Derby Party Zone ticket package and get the authentic Churchill Downs experience, including a Derby hat contest and an official Derby Julep Glass, as well as a food and drink package – priorities.

The only place within Chicago city limits where you can wager on the race, Joe’s packs them in on Derby Day, and for good reason. Enjoy libations, food tents, and live music from Smoke ‘n Guns all afternoon long.

GALE SAYERS’ FOUNDATION AT JOHN BARLEYCORN IN RIVER NORTH

The scoop: Celebrate the Derby and give back to the community by heading to the Barleycorn’s in River North for one of Chicago’s most entertaining fundraisers. Hang with former Bears legend Gale Sayers and other current and former athletes while enjoying the two most exciting minutes in sports. Tickets include complimentary buffet, drink specials, silent auction and guaranteed mingling with a football-centric crowd. Proceeds benefit the Gale Sayer’s Foundation that supports initiatives for underserved Chicago schools.

The scoop: Head to this Bucktown hot spot for one of their busiest and best days of the year. With a name like “the Southern” you know this indoor/outdoor gorgeous bar is going to be hopping.
